Do Carrots Really Improve Our Vision?

August 19, 2020

While carrots do have a lot of Vitamin A which is essential for good vision, milk, cheese, egg yolk, and liver also provide our eyes with Vitamin A. Our eyes will not get better by eating lots of carrots, but eating carrots will give our eyes some of the Vitamin A they need.

Eye health is something many of us do not think much about until we have a concern. Most of us check in with our optometrist once every couple of years to renew our eye prescription and may be totally surprised if anything abnormal shows up. Others are aware how fast eye damage can happen and take precautions to minimize vision loss.

It is good to be reminded to be proactive about our eye health. During the summer months is when our eyes are exposed to invisible UV rays that can penetrate to our retina (found at the back of our eyes). Prolonged exposure to ultraviolet radiation is cumulative and will damage our eyes. We may even get a headache and our vision may be temporarily distorted. The worst time to be looking at the sun is around noon and, of course, during a solar eclipse. UV exposure has been linked to eye disorders such as macular degeneration, solar retinitis, cataracts, pterygium, and corneal dystrophies.

Our eyes are incredibly complex and work like a camera. They work from the minute we wake up until we go to sleep, taking and processing information all day long. Most of us can relate to our eyes being sensitive to light; in fact, our eyes detect light and react to it quickly. They follow movement and can also follow a fast moving object—they are intricate and worth keeping healthy.

Although the eyelid is designed to protect the eye, its skin is exceedingly thin and contains many fragile tissues that may be injured easily by UV light. It is wise to protect our eyes when outdoors or while tanning. Eyesunshields provide a convenient way to do so. For more information, visit their site at https://www.eyesunshields.com/.
