Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough:
In a large bowl, combine the butter, flour, sugar, apple cider vinegar, water, and salt. Mix everything by hand until a dough forms. Cover and refrigerate for 10–12 hours.
  2. Prepare the Apple Filling:
In a skillet over medium heat, combine the shredded apples, sugar, and cinnamon. Sauté for about 15 minutes until the apples soften and release their juices. Let the filling cool completely.
  3. Assemble the Pastry:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Divide the chilled dough into two equal halves. Roll out one half to fit the bottom of a 9x13-inch pan. Line the pan with parchment paper and place the rolled dough on top.
    • Sprinkle 2 tablespoons of cream of wheat evenly over the dough, then spread the cooled apple filling on top.
    • Sprinkle another 2 tablespoons of cream of wheat and 1 teaspoon of sugar over the apple filling.
  4. Add the Top Layer:
Roll out the second half of the dough and place it over the apple filling. Seal the edges and poke the surface with a fork to allow steam to escape during baking.
  5. Bake:
Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour, or until the top is golden brown and cooked through.
  6. Cool and Serve:
Allow the pastry to cool completely after baking before cutting into it. Serve and enjoy!
