Step 1. Core and quarter the apples, then process them in a food processor until finely chopped. Strain off any excess liquid.
Step 2. Measure the flour, sugar, cream of wheat in separate bowls and set aside. Add baking powder to the flour and the cinnamon to the sugar.
Step 3. Butter the cake pan and add one-third of the apples to pan. Add one-third of the flour, sugar, and cream of wheat. Repeat the process ending with the dry ingredients. Top with butter. If choosing not to use butter, end with an apple layer.
Step 4. Bake at 350° for an hour and 15 minutes, or until the top of cake is crusty and light brown.
Step 5. Serve warm with ice cream or cool and add powdered sugar to top. Or serve cold with whipping cream on top.
